Travels in the European Gardens! A cooperation with La Venaria Reale


The Gardens of la Reggia di Venaria (founding member of the Network of European Royal Residences) are World  Heritage site. After extensive works, they reopened in 2007.  Twelve years after their inauguration, the 2019 schedule of events of La Venaria Readle is dedicated to the Gardens under the name « Vivi Giardini ! ».  A wide range of activities are set up throughout 2019 to celebrate them. On this exceptional occasion, the Reggia di Venaria invited the Network of European Royal Residences and its members to participate in some of its initiatives.


  • A Photographic exhibition : A Photographic Journey in the Gardens of the Savoy Royal Residences
    From 5 July to 20 October

First common photographic exhibition of the Network of European Royal Residenes, “A Photographic Journey in the Gardens of the Savoy Royal Residences” presents a series of large-format photographs displayed outdoors in the Venaria gardens. They depict some aspects characterizing the gardens of some European residences.

Its gathers 120 shots depicting water features, architecture, sculptures, parterres, vegetable gardens and perspectives of the most beautiful gardens in Europe. Throughout their visit, visitors will discover photos of European gardens and parks through the bends of the alleys. A real incentive to travel!

  • Exhibition : A Journey in the Gardens of Europe. From Le Nôtre to Henry James
    From 5 July to 20 October

Main element of the programme “Vivi I Giardini!” this exhibition traces the “adventure across European gardens through the continuum of stories told by famous eighteenth- and nineteenth- century travelers who visited the largest and most beautiful parks on the continent”. This exhibition has been realized under the patronage of the Network of European Royal Residences.



  • Conference: The gardens in the mirror of travelers. Testimonies of the past and experiences of the present
    Friday the 4th of October

A scientific conference brought together historians, specialists and amateurs to compare the perception of gardens by travelers between yesterday and today, to discuss the practices put in place by castles to present them to the public, etc. On this occasion, a presentation of the Network of European Royal Residences and its activities has been done. Two presentations were also given by members:

  • Dr Renske Ek (Paleis Het Loo) « A Paradise upon Earth – early travel accounts of the famous Gardens at Loo »
  • Dr Irina Maslennikova (Moscow Kremlin Museums) “Presenting the Kremlin Gardens today”
